VW Jetta 1.9 TDI Diesel Hard Cold Start and Drive -1°F (-18°C) ALH with 270,000 miles
2003 VW Jetta Wagon 1.9L TDI with original ALH engine, injectors, and pump and over 270,000 miles. I have set the injection pump pulley to just a tad below the green line in the timing graph and used adaption to advance the timing to 33000 which is about 3° advanced. Makes cold starting easier, seems to have increased my MPG a little and definitely more power in the higher RPMs. It's got an EGR delete, stage 2 tune, cat delete, and coolant heater from FrostHeater(didn't use it this time because my roommate beat me home). My lifetime(about 1 year) average is 49.5MPG with my best tank getting 816 miles! Hopefully, this will be the start of some new videos! :) I have been gone forever. I hope you all are doing well an enjoyed this video!
Keep exploramenting and thank you for watching!

IC Engine Featured in Hot Rod Magazine and I Got a Job!!!
Переглядів 13 тис.6 років тому
I got a job!!! Sorry for not many uploads the past few months. I have been living out of a hotel for my new job. Still figuring things out. I am planning to move into an apartment at the beginning of February. Once I move some of my workshop from my parents house I will be able to make part 7 of the internal combustion engine and finish that series up. So stay around just a little longer and th...
DIY Hardwood Limb Treasure Box - Quick and Simple Woodworking Project

Here's a fun little project for you all! goo.gl/MBLLh7 I made this as a Christmas gift for a friend but due to being busy with a new job(installing robots) I have not gotten it edited and uploaded until now. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and happy New Year! You should totally make one of these! They are so easy to make. I made this in less than an hour with simple tools at my local m...
Glass Carburetor Running a Briggs & Stratton Engine + How Does a Carburetor Work?
Переглядів 92 тис.6 років тому
Ever wonder what a glass carburetor would look like inside? Well, now we all know! Pretty awesome with all the fuel squirting around and getting sucked into the engine! The glass head Briggs that ua-cam.com/users/805ROADKING did a while ago was part of the inspiration for this video so a special thanks to them. If you haven't already you should go watch my series on turning an old refrigeration...
Part 6. DIY Internal Combustion Engine Made from Old Compressor - Carburetor from Pencil & Heatsink?
Переглядів 186 тис.6 років тому
FNALLY!!! Here is part 6!!! I hope you guys like the carburetor! I thought about a lot of different carburetor designs before I landed on this one. All in all, I am pretty satisfied with it. The needle valve doesn't seem to work very well so I may need to find an alternative. I am so happy with how well I can get the engine to idle and run. I still haven't gotten it to run for a super long time...
Part 5. DIY Internal Combustion Engine Made from Old Compressor - First Run and Copper Head Gasket
Переглядів 171 тис.6 років тому
Part 5 is finally here! First we measured the compression ratio using a syringe and water. Then we made a new head gasket out of annealed 12AWG(0.0808 in)(2.05 mm) copper house wire. Then we soldered the ends together to make a continuous loop that would make a good seal. We then drilled a third hole in the cylinder which is the intake port(the carburetor will eventually be mounted on this hole...
Part 4. DIY Internal Combustion Engine Made from Old Compressor - Crankcase from Aluminum & JB Weld
Переглядів 179 тис.6 років тому
This part we will be manufacturing a crankcase out of a sheet of aluminum and LOTS of my favorite glue, JB Weld!! I even made the cover to the crankcase removable so that I can repair the engine if needed. I used a nut and a bolt to make an access port so I can take the engine apart if I need to. I made a pretty funny mistake in this video so keep your eye out for it(i may have made a play on a...
Part 3. DIY Internal Combustion Engine Made from Old Compressor - Head from Intel Heat Sink
Переглядів 160 тис.7 років тому
In this part we will be manufacturing the cylinder head out of an old stock Intel heat sink. The spark plug I bought at the Home Depot and is a CMR7A with M10 X 1.0 threads. Instead of buying a tap I just used a 3/8 drill bit to make the hole which allowed the plug its self to be used as a tap when screwed in. It's not great but it will work. I may need to find something different to make the h...
Part 2. DIY Internal Combustion Engine Made from Old Compressor - Transfer and Exhaust Valves
Переглядів 112 тис.7 років тому
Can you convert an old refrigeration compressor into an internal combustion engine? You're in the right place if you have ever wondered the same thing. In the second part we will be drilling hols in the cylinder walls to make intake and exhaust ports. The ports will be opened and closed by the piston. Why? Because it will be a challenge and I like a little challenge. The main constraints that I...
Part 1. DIY Internal Combustion Engine Made from Old Compressor - Taking it Apart and Tools
Переглядів 76 тис.7 років тому
I have always wondered if one could convert an old refrigeration compressor into an internal combustion engine. Here is the first video of a series where I try to attempt just that. In theory it should work quit well. The piston has no piston rings however it still has great compression because the surfaces appear to be ground and the tolerances are extremely tight. I like putting constraints o...

How to Rotate AMD Spire Heat Sink - AMD Ryzen microATX Video Editing PC Build

Quick video showing how to rotate your AMD Wraith Spire so that the AMD logo is orientated correctly with your case or whatever else you want to align it with. The heat sink it's self looks really nice. I've never seen one with a vapor chamber like this. It actually makes a lot of sense to use a vapor chamber instead of a solid copper slug. For one a vapor chamber would have far higher thermal ...

Homemade green sand for metal casting. Recipe: bentonite clay from ground kitty litter, 10% by weight. 90% fine sand by weight. This stuff is great for casting most metals including, aluminum, brass, copper, and bronze. Not sure about others as I have not tried...

Is it really necessary to have it under vacuum for a week? That seems like a bit overkill. I’m genuinely asking. I have an HVAC vacuum pump for work, and it will pull all the air out of an entire air conditioning system and like 15 minutes, but I’ve never tried to pull all the air out of something like that.

    • @makerj101
      @makerj101 18 днів тому

Probably not. I was just going over board. There were still some occasional bubbles coming off but I'm sure they would shrink down to microscopic size after pressure is back. This was also done with a refrigerator compressor which doesn't pull nearly as good a vacuum as a proper vacuum pump.

hi. do the two parts of the ferrite core need to be connected?? because i took a core from a crt tv flyback transformer and it had this little insulator between each part.

    • @makerj101
      @makerj101 18 днів тому

That's a good question! I'll tell you, I have no idea! I'm sure it has some effect on inductance and resonance. They put the insulating bits there for a reason in the TV application. I ditched them when I put my core together. I figure no gap will have higher power ability. But just a guess.

Please, please check with one of the many groups with expertise before going ahead with your own ideas, or with something you saw on UA-cam. In my area there's a good sized group of people who build and operate full size steamboats, among other things. But you can find people with expertise in building model steam locomotives pretty much anywhere. At the very least, run your ideas past them online. The guys in Home Model Engine Machinist build not only boilers and steam engines, but even design and build operating gasoline engines. Someone ran the question of using propane bottles past them, and the response was overwhelmingly a loud NO. With reasons given. If you click on the link it offers the choice of cancel or leave but "leave" just opens a new tab. If that feels sketchy to you (It would to me) then just do a Google search for Home Model Engine Machinist. Open their search bar and enter 'boiler from bbq propane' under keywords and scroll down to 'search' line. www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/threads/boiler-from-bbq-propane-tank-question.1830/

The piston and engine are tiny but the rotor flywheel looks like you could run a flat leather belt like a hit and miss engine even though this engine is hardly bigger than a leather belt pulley.

Why cant you or why doesnt anyone ever use multiple spark gaps as their primary focus when multiplying power to achieve get those huge electrical discharges, over jacobs latter's, flybacks, tesla coils, ect..?

6:10, it's missing the sealed chamber around the combustion chamber. it purges that chamber before ignition so the flapper chamber has to be sealed for it to pass that part of the start up process.

Nice little HV transformer, good work. Just remember that it now can supply much more current and are much more dangerous. High frequency HV mostly goes on the surface of the body but dangerous anyway and you dont want to make a misstake. That said, it looks like a good HV transformer and one of the better DIY transformers i have seen on YT. Now, build a HV multiplier (potted or in oil) and take the voltage up to 100kV. This transformer will be an excellent driver for such a multiplier.

Man, this is quite the resource! I've got an aspiration to make a steam-powered generator one day, even if it's just a USB charger, and this is the most explained one that doesn't require a lathe! Well done, my good sir, well done! Though I do have a couple ideas for it. Perhaps you could use some O rings to make your piston and valve leak less? Just spitballing, here. Implementing that might be harder than one would initially think. I know that this video is nine years old, but I'd love to see your take on a boiler! I've actually seen some DIY steam engines on youtube that used an old coke can for the boiler, though I'm not too sure how feasible that'd be, i believe soda cans have an internal plastic lining
